Motivate them

Found in the past that games with a prize motivate the kids a great deal. I've done this with Major Midget kids and Novice kids. We call it the Gatorade cup. Place the goals in one end of the ice,…Continue

Getting the kids to care

Rep Coach interview in the morning, does anyone have any positive input toward my presentation or insight on how to prepare?

Physical preparation (conditioning)

Developing the ABC's (Agility, Balance and Coordination)
Agility, balance and coordination are three parts of fitness which are referred to as "athletic ability".  When you say somebody is a good athlete, you usually mean that person has good agility, balance and coordination.

Practice becomes meaningful with the correct technique in mind.  Know how to execute proper technique.

Use your imagination and come up with games which challenge the level of coordination, balance and agility which your players already possess.

Encourage young players to participate in all sports because the athletic ability which they develop and derive from other sports will carry over into their hockey and make them better players.

Any thoughts on getting squirts/peewees ready on game day?

  • What to drink/eat before the game?
  • How many hours prior to game time to eat?
  • Things to do to get hand/eye coordination going?

Thanks

Brandon,

What level of players are you talking about?

If they are at a level where they feel hockey will not take them to a better place then they will focus on other things like their social life etc.

Try and make practice competitive and fun.

There are many small games you incorporate into your practice.
