I'm currently having a problem with motivating my U-18 team. They don't seem to have the desire to win. Practice is very lackadaisical and despite threats or rewards, I can not seem to get the output I desire from my kids. This is then reflecting directly into games as we struggle to maintain intensity. It is almost like they have harnessed a mentality of "if I don't try, then you never really beat me."

Has anyone else encountered this and have any ideas on how to combat this?

I am currently, expiriencing this as we speek with my major PeeWee team as well. They seem to only work as hard as the line in front of them. no motivation no drive seems like everyone is waiting for some else to step up and do the job.. Not sure how to combat as far as dicipline I think they need to be leaned on cutting ice time and rewarding those who need to be rewarded its harsh but seasons end quickly..
