Its that time of year again where we've crossed the midway point and are trying to go in strong for the playoffs.  Everyone has some nagging injuries, some physical and mental fatigue and so I was wondering what are some good ways to keep your mind and body sharp going into the last few months of the year?

Mike Peluso A Hockey Players Off Season

Off season for many hockey players is a tough time of year.  You need to focus even harder during this time of your hockey season.  Each player needs to look at his or her game, and decide what you need to focus on to become a better player for the following season and work on things.  If you are ever in question as to what you need to focus on, a simple rule for all hockey players is this.  Core and leg strength are number one in the game of hockey!  Wayne Gretzky once said he never saw a… Continue

NATE LESLIE Cologne Sharks 1998

Hi Mike,

My name is Nate Leslie.  My father, Bob Leslie, coached you in Cologne in 1998.  My brother Boe and I were playing in the Swiss B league at the time, and met you briefly a few times throughout the season.  I came across your site today as I am in the same business, and like to stay connected with the online hockey community.  Bob, Boe and I have started the Leslie Coaching Academy. I think this all has so much potential, and room to grow.   The hockey world is so…

Frank Filippis Squirt Jr Checker Playoff Weekend ends with uncertainty

Last weekend, March 5 & 6th, was playoff weekend for the Jr Checker Squirts in Raleigh , NC. The 2nd place Jr Checkers started the weekend against the 1st place undefeated Columbia Cyclones. It was an exciting, energy packed game which went down to the wire. Frank The Tank played brilliantly in net stopping an opening face off break away and showing brilliant form throughout the game.

The Jr Checkers broke a 2-2 tie with about 4 minutes left in the game to lead 3-2.  Right off…

Mike Peluso Good Hockey Humor!

HOW TO KNOW WHEN KID'S HOCKEY IS TAKING OVER YOUR LIFE.

1 You base the next purchase of your new vehicle on whether it will hold

six kids, six sticks, and six hockey bags.

2 You know the location of every hockey store within a 400 mile radius.

3 You relate directions to places by the nearest arena.

4 You know every kid on every team your child has ever played on, but

don't have a clue who his school mates are.

5 You feel lost when you have a free weekend.… Continue

Phil Myre CELEBRITIES AND HEROES! Are they the same?

“Celebrity-worship and hero-worship should not be confused. Yet we confuse them every day, and by doing so we come dangerously close to depriving ourselves of all real model”. Daniel J. Boorstin (1)

Just because someone is a celebrity doesn’t mean that he is a hero or a role model. Parents should be vigilant on who their…

"SOS"=SUPPORT, OUTNUMBER AND SMOTHER: A Coaching Success Tool You Can Utilize
Those of you who have been reading my blog for the past several years already know that I am a huge proponent of two of the most oft-heard and time-worn coaching-for success principles of "simplicity and consistency."
In other words, I both strongly adhere to and personally agree 100 percent that it is mandatory for coaches at all levels to cultivate an effective, yet…

Mike Peluso ND State High School Tourney

Well, the ND State High School tournament starts tomorrow for us at 1:30 at the Ralgh Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks ND.  We will open up our first round against the Grafton Spoilers.  Lets hope they don't live up to the nickname.  Anyway, this marks the 22nd straight year the Bismarck Demon hockey team has appeared in the tournament.  Our last two seasons ended up as state runner ups and maybe, just maybe we can figure out a way to win the big one someday soon!  Should be fun to watch all the… Continue
